As Europe’s leading importer and distributor of organic fruit and vegetables, Eosta (with Nature & More as a leading brand) required more space after years of continuous growth.
Thomas Rau designed a new 19,500m² building. Systabo realised its shell under the instruction of VolkerWessels Vastgoed.
Ex Interiors carried out the fittings and interior in conjunction with Logge Circulair.
The designers of Ex Interiors approached us at FRONT® (Formerly StoneCycling) to work with them on a waste-based concept for the wall cladding of this sustainable office.
Together, we upcycled 4600 kilos of waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.

The building of EOSTA has many circular and sustainable characteristics. The shell and design have a ‘materials passport’, which states the building materials used to ensure they can be reused as much as possible after demolition.
The roof of the distribution and packaging halls is covered with solar panels, and rainwater is collected and used for local horticultural irrigation.
The building exudes warmth and humanity and may be considered the physical expression of the company’s core values of Authenticity, Togetherness, and Social Responsibility.
Together with the architects of Ex Interiors, we selected the Mushroom WasteBasedBrick as the starting point for this project, to create a colour and texture nuance. We changed the brick’s recipe slightly to create a gradient. Then we worked with three types of finishes: Raw, Punched and Sliced.
Additionally, Ex Interiors challenged us to create the longest WasteBasedBrick we’ve produced so far. With its 45-centimetre length, we contributed a unique long & lean brick slip to a lively and warm sustainable interior.
The Mushroom WasteBasedBrick as a base created an efficient production process. The brick bond then allowed the masons to use every little bit of the Mushroom, with almost no new waste during construction.
Queen Maxima of The Netherlands officially opened the office in November 2018 with CEO Volkert Engelsman. We are proud to be part of such an ambitious project with one of the leading specialists in circular and sustainable building.
Circularity requires a fundamentally different approach. We define it as facilitating the consequences of temporality.
Due to a unique firing process, the Mushroom is made up of multiple shades of grey.
Using the Mushroom WasteBasedBrick as the starting point for this project, a colour gradient and texture nuance was created. The brick got a Raw, Punched and Sliced finish and was produced in a unique length of 45 centimetres. This was a one-off product made specifically for this project. For a similar product, please see above. With our Custom Made Service, it's possible to develop your own bespoke brick or brick slip.
