Floor from Waste at Tech Company in Amsterdam

Waste-Based Flooring

Can we use WasteBasedBricks as flooring?” That was the question of the Amsterdam-based studio for interior architecture, Studio Rian Knop when they first approached us.

The studio, known for its distinct interiors, was in the process of designing a new office space for a leading tech company based in Amsterdam.

We did have some experience using WasteBasedBricks as flooring, but not on this scale, and not for a client currently becoming an impactful worldwide player in their field. But we love a good challenge!

Waste-Based Flooring

After running additional tests to ensure the WasteBasedSlips would perform well in the tech company’s new office, we sent our Blackpepper bricks to the ‘floor man’ who cut them into thin slices of 210 x 50 x 15 mm.

The spacious work floor is interrupted in various places by separate, enlarged wood and glass blocks. Informal meetings and flex working spaces are centred in areas, creating peace in the rest of the workplace.

Approximately 3750 kilos of waste was up-cycled in this project.

Light. Air. WasteBasedBricks.

Having outgrown their building in the centre of Amsterdam, the new head office of the tech company moved to a spacious former warehouse on the city’s outskirts. It’s been designed to meet the needs of over 100 employees: there is a large café and a lot of flexibility to work and gather formally and informally in teams of 2 to 10 people.

Creating more floor space, a loft with a beautiful atrium was installed. As a result, light and air from the characteristic shed roofs reach the ground floor, bringing out the best of our bricks!

The industrial character of the office space is also strengthened by keeping all installations in view.
